The AFD EMV liability shift date was deferred in order to allow the petroleum industry time needed to meet the unique challenges but don’t confuse the deferment as a free pass. Experts clarified network rules associated with the deferred liability shift in order to help AFD merchants make an educated decision on their EMV deployment plans and interim steps to manage fraud.

Laura recently took on a new role as SVP of Operations of the Merchant Advisory Group. In her prior experience, she has led corporate cash, consumer payment, and global digital product management initiatives including emerging innovative consumer experience opportunities at McDonald’s Corporation most recently as the Senior Director, Global Cashless & Digital Products. In addition, Laura has held various leadership roles on external industry boards and special interest groups with the objective to drive positive change in payments through multi-stakeholder collaboration and education.

Steve Mathison is Senior Vice President of Acquiring Payments for First Data, a Fortune 300 financial services company that provides secure and innovative payment technology and services to more than six million merchants and financial institutions around the world. Steve has been with First Data for 22 years, and manages First Data’s acquiring processing capabilities and the various payment networks associated with payment processing at the point of sale. He also manages the Product Management process for adopting and launching new payment processing capabilities across First Data’s acquiring processing systems and portfolios. He is a subject matter expert on EMV, and routinely serves as a participant and consultant on multiple payments’ industry forums, for state and federal policymakers, regulatory update sessions with key payments industry players, and has served as an expert witness to testify in front of various federal and state legislative bodies across the country.
Steve is based in First Data’s Omaha, NE office.

Tom Nipper has been in the Retail Petroleum industry for 22 years. His career started at Verifone as the Ruby POS Project Manager. He held various roles at Verifone including National Sales and Distributor Relationship Sales. He moved to then Paymentech in 2001 in Business Development for Retail Petro Acquiring. The company evolved to Chase Paymentech and now Chase Commerce Solutions. He leads Commerce Solution’s Petroleum business unit responsible for Acquiring, ChaseNet and Chase Pay products.
