Business Case Toolkit

Getting approval to attend the MAG Tech Forum requires demonstrating the benefits of the conference to your organization and persuading your boss that you are the right person to invest in attending.

In this toolkit, the MAG offers resources to help you develop your business case and to secure funding to attend the MAG Tech Forum. The kit provides a sample justification letter, tips on how to demonstrate ROI, networking ideas, and strategies for sharing your knowledge with coworkers after the event.

STEP 1
PREPARE TO CONVINCE YOUR BOSS

  • Connect with your peers to identify session topics that are valuable to your employer.

  • Review and identify sponsors/exhibitors that provide insights/solutions for your company’s top issues.

  • Review MAG member companies to identify key organizations for networking and relationship development.

  • Use Expenses section in the justification letter template to help estimate costs.
STEP 2
DEMONSTRATE RETURN ON INVESTMENT

  • Customize the justification letter to include details on sessions specific to the business objectives of your company.

  • Schedule time to meet with your boss to review the conference agenda, and your networking plan. (See Step 3 Develop Your Networking Plan). Also review your post-conference knowledge sharing plan. (See Step 4 Create Post-Conference Sharing Plan).

STEP 3
DEVELOP YOUR NETWORKING PLAN

Smartphone

Use the conference mobile app to connect (available August 29):

  • Review the speaker, sponsor and merchant attendee lists a week or two before the conference.

  • Research people you’d like to meet and reach out using the app.

  • Set up a 10-15-minute meeting over coffee or a drink.
Email Keep the conversation going:
  • Connect with colleagues who also attended – comparing and sharing perspectives.

  • Join one of the MAG Special Interest Groups, which will connect you to business colleagues within your company's vertical(s).

  • Reach out to MAG Staff after the conference to collaborate on future engagement.

STEP 4
CREATE POST-CONFERENCE SHARING PLAN

Break down your top five MAG Tech Forum takeaways:

  • Prioritize the top five items to help you focus the information you’ve gathered and make it easier for your colleagues to learn.

Commit to a one-week de-brief:
  • Carve out time as soon as possible to share high points with your team.

  • Efficiently combine sharing your knowledge during existing activities.

  • Download slide decks to recall information and share key points.

  • Share the MAG 2019 webinar schedule, which will include Tech Forum curated content.
