This educational session will provide an overview on how the different retail payment networks in the USA operate. Attendees to this session should include individuals who are unfamiliar to payments or have had very limited experience with payment acceptance. After attending this 4-hour session attendees will have a good grasp of how payment network work (i.e. credit cards, debit cards, ACH, and checks. For cards, attendees will learn about the authorization processes and some of the fraud detection tools available to merchants; they will also learn about the Clearing and Settlement processes as well as Chargebacks. For ACH, attendees will learn about the different roles played by network participants, how transactions flow through the system and how exceptions are handled. Attendees will also get a high level overview of the economics of the different payment networks.
